Officer's Light Blue 1918 Pattern

 Service Dress Jacket.

Photographs kindly provided by Scott Marchand.

Originally introduced at the outset the Royal Air Force as optional Mess Dress for the duration of the war, and then reclassified for general wear in July of 1918. This particular example is ranked to that of a Lieutenant, as the RAF used Army rank nomenclature for a short period of period.

Flying badges were full sized versions in gold and silver wire embroidery.

Ranks were depicted by means  of Gold lace. Note that prior to July 1918 there would have been and eagle and crown mounted above the lace. This particular tunic also displays two wound stripes.   Belt buckles post July 1918 incorporated two prongs, prior to this date they were only fitted with a single one.  Additional by this time the buttons lost the the feature of a Roped Edged.
